The Original Rosie the Riveter was Canadian? Meet all the Rosies from Michigan to Ontario

Even if you don’t think you know who Rosie the Riveter is, you probably do. At least, sort of. Think young woman, red and white polka dot scarf, knotted on top of her head, grabbing her flexed arm. This WWII feminine exemplar, had a resurgence in the ‘80s. That’s when the iconic images was unearthed in the American National Archives. Since then, it has shown up everywhere.

So who is this symbol of American womanhood — building warplanes on assembly lines while their men fought overseas? Half a dozen American Rosies staked claim to being the inspiration. But the truth is, the first real “Rosie” was a “Ronnie”…. and Ronnie was Canadian. Listen to hear the full story!
